Rejoice Summoners!

League of Legends is one of the most popular games on the PC today. It’s a real-time strategy massive multiplayer online role playing game.

I love to get into the game every now and then, especially when I’m home alone with nobody to distract or annoy me. A tool that a friend has told me about is the League of Legends Strategy Building Tool by MOBAFire.

League of Legends Strategy Tool – MOBAFire

I use this tool every time I need information. Before getting into the client, I check out the free Champions of the week, new Champions and Champion spotlights. It’s useful because you have all of them in one website. You don’t need to go anywhere else.

They also have video streams of games, eSports coverage and online tournaments.

For all the Summoners, I definitely recommend this tool!

I Love Firefox Extensions

Mozilla Firefox is the most powerful, add-on friendly browser out there. It has almost 3,000 extensions and it continually grows! It’s amazing how useful these tools are for the typical and power user. You have so many to choose from and most of them are great! Here are my personal favourites. I use these, so I know that they’re good.

FlashGot

flashgot.net2

When it comes to YouTube, I love collecting videos that I find very interesting. You can use FlashGot as a tool download any video, audio or media file from any website. This is powerful because it finds whatever media file is running on the website and allows you to download it. I’ve personally used this to download a few videos, Physics videos that I find really useful for the future, computer videos, spoken word poetry videos and all four Pokémon Origins episodes.

It’s stable right now considering I haven’t had any problems with it. One flaw that I find in this extension is that it doesn’t allow you to download MP3 files from YouTube. You can only download its actual type (videos will be video files, music will be audio files etc). Other than that, I recommend it!

Easy YouTube Video Downloader Express 7.0

What a mouthful!

This extension allows to download MP3, MP4, FLV and 3GP. It’s useful for me because I need music. MUSIC!

For those who love music, this should be a very useful extension for you. Also, it’s an alternative to FlashGot.

I do recommend it. I’ve only had one problem with it because it was one of the reasons why Firefox crashed once. It only happened once. After that, it’s been smooth sailing.

AdBlock

logo-adblock-plus

Everyone hates advertisements. It’s a stupid, yet profitable, way of getting people’s attentions. Most of the ads online are malware and viruses too.

AdBlock blocks all of the advertisements that flash, pop or annoy you when visiting a website. It also blocks advertisements on YouTube (including the ones that run before a video). Not only does this help speed up your browsing, it also “protects” you from possible website threats.

It also allows you to block ads yourself. If you see something that you think is an ad, use their blocking tool and delete it from your screen. Not only does it take it off, but it also sends it to the developers to check it out and see if it is an advertisement. Think of it as a “REPORT” button. It’s very useful.

Roomy Bookmarks

Bookmarks are handy because it’s an easy shortcut to a website that you often go to.  The Bookmarks toolbar (default for Firefox) shows both the logo of the website, but also its name. I think that takes up a lot of space on my toolbar. I have Facebook, YouTube, Wolfram, Tech Gum, WordPress, League of Legends, ODB, Bible Gateway — the list goes on.

You can modify the bookmarks to only show the logo, but that means you have to delete the name. This won’t help me when it comes to me actually looking at the bookmarks manager.

Enter Roomy Bookmarks. It only shows the logo of the website, without actually deleting the name and title. It may not be a big deal for some of you, but it’s pretty big for me. I like having a nice, clean bookmarks toolbar.

Classic Compact

Classic Compact is a classic (ba-dum tsss). It lets you revamp your Mozilla 24 and make it look like it was when it was nice and clean. I like this look probably because I’m a huge nostalgia guy. Anything that can bring back old memories, I’ll do it.

With its toolbar features and icon customization, you have many options to choose from. This is actually a theme that comes with an extension. The theme designs the browser while the extension gives you the customization options.

All I need now is an Windows XP theme for my Windows 7 and I’ll be happy again.

My “Two Shades of Classic” theme that I customized myself. You can also see (here) the Roomy Bookmarks and Classic Compact theme for Firefox.

These extensions are great! I love them!

Games Worth Your While

The gaming world has definitely changed for the past decade. From Super Mario to Pokémon to Mortal Kombat, a lot has changed. I’ve been gaming for quite some time now, Pokémon RED being my first video game and a GameBoy being my first console. I love gaming and that will never change. Some may say that I’m addicted. What I tell them, in return, is: “The greatest things can only be truly enjoyed with moderation.”

The Personal Computer

The personal computer is one of the greatest, most prominent advancements in human history. Great inventions such as the car, airplanes and cup holders are no match to your everyday PC. Almost everyone in the entire North American grid owns a computing device, whether it be a home computer, laptop, smartphone, tablet – the list goes on. It is also the fastest growing technology. Almost everyday, there is something new for the PC. It could be hardware or software – most of which help enhance the use of the PC.

One question that has never been considered answered is why is it a Personal Computer called a Personal Computer?

Personally speaking (pun intended), I think it is because of how we use it. Almost everything we do is on a computer. We talk to people using the video chatting application called Skype, which continues to grow as a service for people who would like to communicate with friends and family all over the world. Social networking has exploded, with the popular use of Facebook and Twitter. Writing became easy to share with the blogging sites like Blogger, WordPress and Weebly. Video sharing has also popularized with YouTube and the new website called Vine. The Internet truly became a community and a hub for people all over the world.

The computer is personal because of our daily needs. Because of the PC and its strengths (back then), we are able to create documents for work (Word), presentations to show off ideas (PowerPoint), spreadsheets to keep important data, numbers and information (Excel) and publish flyers or brochures to further increase sales for your small business (Publisher).

Everyone seems to love video editing. Photo editing too! I’m sure you know someone who would love to make some funny videos, action scenes, edited CGI or animations as a hobby. Or even someone who wants to touch up pictures for a certain online dating site. For video, Windows usually comes with their infamous Windows Movie Maker, which allows PC users to edit videos. The only problem with this was its limitations. It was only a drag and drop program with minimum options for editing. For someone to professionally edit videos, they have to purchase software or find freeware/open source software that can handle all the rendering, file management and high quality videos. Photo editing was a big deal for Microsoft. Instead, Adobe took the stage and created Adobe Photoshop. It is widely used for editing photos. Animations also became popular in the Internet. Blender usually takes the cake for animations. It’s a great freeware!

Music has always played an important role in human history. It defined eras and even created its own history. In the computer, users can create, listen and play music without hassle. It allowed many hidden musicians (excluding Justin Bieber) to shine. With music tools and applications, making and recording music is as easy as pressing a button, literally!

The gaming industry has recently exploded. The gaming community is ten times stronger than ever! PC gamers are proud. They either take pride of their prized possession – their own, personally built PC, or are happy to play some League of Legends with some actual players! No, seriously, the gamer can be a console gamer or a PC gamer. I’d say, in my opinion (although I am a console guy), PC gamers are cooler. Tons of games are free to play, there is more hardware power on a PC right now compared to the upcoming next gen consoles and the PC gaming community is growing in numbers! The PC is truly the core of gaming.

And then, there was development. The computing world would not consistently progress without programmers, software developers and code writers. These are the wizards of the world. They are the ones who should be considered the rock stars of this generation. Without them, the computer would be a throwaway. It is those who know how to write C++, C, C#, Java, JavaScript, HTML, etc that revolutionized our daily lives. As an aspiring programmer (game developer and future CEO of Blizzard or Google), I believe that credit should be given where it is due.

Now, it seems that we still have not answered the question correctly, why is it a Personal Computer called a Personal Computer?

The answer is: it is because we make it personal.
